SIHF Healthcare Celebrates National Health Center Week With Special Community Events

August 13, 2017

SIHF Healthcare is celebrating National Health Center Week 2017 (NHCW), August 13-19, with public health screenings across southern Illinois and charity donation drives at its more than 30 health centers.

What began as a pilot project during President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty in 1965, today’s community health centers serve more than 25 million people nationwide, many of whom are uninsured or underinsured. As the second largest Federally Qualified Health Center network in Illinois, SIHF Healthcare operates more than 30 health centers in 11 counties across southern Illinois, offering comprehensive health care services including: adult, family, women’s health, pediatrics, dental services, behavioral health, and population health services.

“Without patient-centered health centers, many individuals would not receive the quality care they need due to a lack of insurance, financial limitations or transportation constraints,” said Larry McCulley, President & CEO of SIHF Healthcare. “By serving everyone who walks through our doors, with the utmost dignity and respect, the staff of SIHF Healthcare is focused on making southern Illinois healthier than ever before.”

The 2017 NHCW’s theme is “Celebrating America’s Health Centers: The Key to Healthier Communities.” In recognition of NHCW, SIHF Healthcare is sponsoring community donation drives for a number of nonprofits, including Catholic Charities of St. Clair County, Community Hope Center, Crisis Nursery, Senior Services Plus, Interfaith Food Pantry, as well as various school districts, at health centers across its network. In addition, it will host free health screenings across the region during the week. For a list of health center locations, please visit http://www.sihf.org/health-centers.
