March 1, 2019

SIHF Healthcare is offering a few tips that will help individuals lead healthier lives. This comes at a time when many health-related New Year’s resolutions are forgotten.

“It’s okay to have a few minor setbacks when striving for a healthier you,” says Cindy Spencer, MSN, APRN, FNP-C at SIHF Healthcare, 1510 Sunset Drive in Vandalia. “Changing your lifestyle can be difficult but having regular check-ups with your doctor can help keep you on the right track.”

Try to incorporate small changes a little at a time. For example, avoid the elevator and take the stairs. Doing sowill boost your heart rate and increase blood flow throughout your body. Taking the stairs can also help strengthen your leg joints and muscles.

“Stand more and sit less - even if you have a desk job, stand up as often as you can,” adds Spencer. “Standing up at work will greatly reduce your risk of weight gain and obesity. It will also help lower your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. By standing and breaking up the amount of time you spend sitting, your blood sugar levels will go down - which is key to preventing diabetes.”

The medical providers at SIHF Healthcare want to make sure you are living a happy and healthy life. With yearly checkups and patient education, they can treat immediate health concerns and work to prevent any looming risks.
