Services and Support for Mothers, Children and Their Families Before, During and After Pregnancy

If you live in St. Clair County and are pregnant or planning a family, Healthy Start can help you get the information and services you need to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

The Healthy Start team at SIHF Healthcare is here to connect you with a doctor and others who can answer any questions regarding your pregnancy. Healthy Start also provides you with continual encouragement and support at every stage in your pregnancy, and as you care for your newborn.

Healthy Start Services:

  • Access to prenatal and pediatric healthcare
  • Health insurance enrollment assistance for you and your family, including Medicaid and All Kids
  • Free transportation to medical appointments, classes, and Healthy Start-sponsored events
  • Breastfeeding support
  • WIC referrals
  • Access to preconception and reproductive healthcare
  • Access to mental health and counseling
  • Health education
  • Free prenatal classes and parenting classes

Healthy Start partners with the national BABY & ME - Tobacco Free Program to help pregnant and post-partum moms quit smoking. We’re committed to helping you quit for your health and your baby’s.

Finally, Healthy Start helps dad prepare for his role as a new father. We assist men with setting goals for themselves and their families.

How Do I Enroll in Healthy Start?

  • You must be a resident of St. Clair County.
  • Ask your doctor, school counselor or school nurse to refer you to Healthy Start.
  • Call Healthy Start at 618.646.2505. A team member will set up a time to meet with you at one of the following locations:
    • Centreville: 6000 Bond Avenue
    • East St. Louis: 2001 State Street
    • East St. Louis: 100 N. 8th Street
    • Belleville: 7210 West Main

Healthy Start is federally funded from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau, grant #H49MC0049. The Healthy Start program aims to reduce disparities in infant mortality and adverse perinatal outcomes.
